Shouldn´t be much work actually. 2 files bit worked over with some airbrush snow in PSP. I´ll see, but don´t expect something to be finished within next days, as I´m quite busy with come CMN stuff. :)

While you´re exploring CMX1, did you have a look at TPG FAQ/Tools --> Design Tips & Playtest tactics section already? There´s a wealth of info not to be missed! :)

And another little discovery:

We scenario designers are often confronted by players who DONT READ THE BRIEFING, and then give the Scenario a bad review.

One of the worst is the player who insists on playing the AI, when it is clearly stated that the AI won't play it's side effectively.

Solution:

Give one or both sides an Assault Boat - this eliminates the AI option for that side - only Hotseat, PBEM and TCP/IP options will be available.

And guess what?

You don't even have to have the Boat on the map.

I made a Battle with 33 Turns.

The Assault Boat is a reinforcement set for Turn 50.

It will never arrive, but the AI option for that side is still not available.

I would think Ops work the same way - have the Boat arrive as a reinforcement in a Battle that is numbered beyond the actual number of Battles in your Op.

Thank you for your effort, Rockinharry -

In the end, the solution for me was this:

June, 1942, Finland. In the Operation Parameters, temperature is set to COLD, Weather to BAD.

First Battle is Midday - the water is unfrozen.

2nd Battle is Night - the water freezes.

3rd Battle is Midday again - the water is unfrozen.

4th Battle is Night - frozen.

This so far has been 100% consistent.

What conclusions one might extrapolate from this, I don't know - but it works.

I do believe I will be using your 'Shattered Pines' Mod with this Scenario - I like the look of it - thanks!

:)

Does anyone know how to do this so that one can reliably get weather warmer than FROZEN in the second or (maybe) third battle?

I've just spent a frustrating couple of hours trying every different combo of TIME OF YEAR and REGION.

Seems that if you select FROZEN for the first battle, things stay frozen.

Anyone seen different?

I'm sure I've played Ops where water turns to ice as the weather changes - how to do the opposite?

Any assistance gratefully appreciated.

I just made a small test operation, december 1943, south, 3 battles, 10 long
ground: light snow
temperature: frozen
weather forecast: good
night: every following battle
battle opening: morning.

I had a map with initial frozen river, skipped the 2nd night battle and on battle 3 (morning next day) had temperature cold and river unfrozen.

Think the key is selection of "light snow" (turns to deep mud, when warmer) ground, weather forecast good (good weather appears also to be warmer weather in winter times) and spreading the operation over more than one day (assuming drastic weather changes possibly occur on a dayly basis, not hourly when spreading the operation over just a single day). The GM also mentions a random element, so you can´t probably be reliably safe about the weather to change to what you want.

I´d also assume that thawing weather more likely occurs during early or late winter months (october, november, february, march) and not high winter (december, january).

This is just from a quick test.

No idea if Pyewacket (or anybody else) is planning on a map converter for CMX1 --> CMX2, but technically that seems to be impossible anyway, since both games aren´t compatible in any ways.

I´d wait a couple of months and see many ol CMX1 ETO scens beeing remade for CMN for sure. :)

The current remakes of "Chance encounter" and "Valley of trouble" for CMX2 is just the beginning, I think.

Hi Guys!
First post here since a long time, but big fan of all Historical or semi-historical scenarios, and I greatly appreciate the efforts many of you are putting in this hobby (or should I say passion) of ours...
I played many a battle in CMX1, made a few Mods (as Grunt), designed a few Maps and converted a few too from CMBO to CMETO (modded CMAK); I still have four versions of CMX1 installed, but lately I've been caught back to my childhood passion for aircraft, and passed my time flying IL-2 Sturmovik (Modded, of course) and also FSX where I try to strictly fly 'by the book'...
Only a few days ago I received the DVD from BF for the Mac CMBN so I got hooked again; I've just started playing with it and I should say I'm very impressed by the 'immersive' factor that has brought back a lot of my CMX1 experience to an higher degree.
It may still have some glitches for us old timers with CM, but overall I'm enthusiast, and I look forward to see many Scenarios from this Great Community! Old fart here, so I only like the WeGo to revel in my OCS to move all those waypoints (at this mo' you cannot edit those in CMX2) so I put some complaints back to the BF forum, but trust me, CMBN is a real hit and full of potentiality for Modders and Scenario Designers (or should I say Developers?)... Well, in another ten years I may write again. ;)
Cheers!

Map Converter now works for me again too. Thanks, Cranky! :)

Obviously Map Converter made use of some older ActiveX elements, as part of some vintage Visual Basic runtime stuff. On older computers and earlier Versions of (WinXP) OS, we probabaly all had it downloaded and installed, for use in various applications, so usually did not run into any such problems yet. On new machines and up to date OS, the files appear to be missing.

Just as cranky says, the missing files (comdlg32.ocx, MSCOMCTL.OCX) can be found and downloaded from the net. They go into the WinXP *\system32 folder and then need to be registered with the command console.

Happy converting :)

And a Big Thankyou to rockinharry for sending me a copy of Pyewacket's Map Converter!

Please Note: rockinharry tested his copy before sending it to me, and got an error message very similar to the error message that originally prompted me to ask if anybody had this prog.

There is a nice easy solution, it turns out, and I now have a working Map Converter - nice :)

And I learned something :)

I have sent this solution to rockinharry.

Simply: if you get an error message when trying to run Map Converter that mentions a missing file, do a google search for that file name plus the word 'missing'.

You will quickly find a page that provides the file, together with simple instructions for 'installation' :)

This is obviously a problem that is bigger than just Map Converter :)

If anyone out there needs a copy of Map Converter, let me know.
