Scenario; "Metro City Madness'
Location: Metro City, Stewartania
Date: May 1943
Time : Mid-Day, Overcast, Cool, Dry

Note: This scenario is a strictly for entertainment and perhaps some good tactical training in fighting in built up areas. It is NOT historical by any stretch, nor was it intended to be, but it is a tremendously fast paced, challenging scenario.

Sit-Rep: Metro City, known throughout Europe for its outstanding historical sites, and it pristine streetscape. Their queen Martha of the house of Stewart, prior to the war breaking out, brow beat the League of Nations into designating it a "Cultural Heritage Wonder". As such, all combatants have agreed to forego using any track laying AFV when fighting in this little piece of heaven. Also, all empty casings will have to be picked up following the battle.

As such, as the forces of the Reich and its ally are in a race with the Western Allies to seize this metropolis, so that their respective Nations will be able to have a secure and safe spot for their "Tony" classes to mingle when the war is over. If that isn't a reason to die, I don't know what is!

This battle simulates the events of that day as the 12th SS Panthers see some of the first action against this odd new version of the Sherman.
Two mechanised forces race for control of vital river crossings and the bridgeheads beyond.
SCENARIO: Fictional battle. What if the German high command had refitted Luftflotte 3 with a full complement of fighters in France during the beginning months of 1944 ? The Allies would not have had air supremecy during the beginning stages of the D-Day invasions, which would have allowed the Panzer Divisions to reach the Normandy coast unhindered. History as we know it, would probably not be the same, and the world, especially Euorpe, would probably be quite different today.

This Scenario tries to bring that theory to life as it depicts the beginning stages of the German counter-attacks in western Normandy. For those not aware, what really happened was Germany's forces were decimated by the Allied fighter-bombers as they marched toward the shores of Normandy. Their forces were drastically reduced, and their advances were almost stopped in their tracks. Movement by day was virtually impossible. What foces managed to make it to the front lines, were a mere shadow of their former selves. The German Army in the west almost ceased to exist thanks in large part to the Allied air cover.

BACKGROUND: June 7, 1944, and the long awaited invasion had begun the day before on 6 June. The Allies have established a foothold on the beaches of Normandy and are advancing slowly inland. However, this day history is going to be re-written. Field Marshall Goering kept his promise to re-equip the Luftwaffe in France. When the Allied air forces reached the coast of France, they were met by swarms of Germany's fighters. Instead of the Panzer Divisions being mauled by the Allied fighter-bombers, they met the Allied infantry divisions head-on and in full strength. This scenario pits the infamous "12th SS Hitlerjugend" against the advacing US Army.

On this day, 12th SS, specifically Kampfgruppe Wunsche, is to go on the offensive. A few Allied fighters got through the Luftwaffe screen but the flak guns are on standby. On the morning of 7 June, the 12th SS Kampfgruppe had reached the outskirts of the small town called Mauvaines, just 2 miles inland from the Normandy coast. The Allies had seized the town from a small detachment of the 353rd Inf Div. 12th SS has orders not just to seize the town back from the allies, but to push the American Army back to the coast and into the sea.

this is a serie of six tiny battles.

These are small battles on small maps ensuring fast gameplay and endresult.

These scenarios are build as testbattles. They are not balanced or 100% historical but still winnable.

How you get your endresult is all up to you, the tactics you use are YOUR tactics!

My intention is that you will play these scenarios more then once and that you will improve your skills.

Historical Axis Attack of the 12th SS Division against the 3rd Canadian Division north of Caen, June 7th 1944.
Axis attack on an allied fort. A surprise flank attack in the middle of the battle may turn the tide for the German side.
02/21/45 After several failed attempts to clear the stategic Moyland Wood, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles are assigned the job to clear the last area of the German held woods. However the German defenders had been replaced by brand new crack Fallschirmjager troops. These fanatical German Paratroopers contained the cream of German manhood and had never tasted defeat. No 5 in the CMBB Combat History series Bäke Battles: "Der Mensch" In The East", this scenario follows on from the earlier CMBB scenario "Bäke’s Knights Cross at New Year Part 1”.

Bäke’s II. Abteiling of the 6th Panzer Division’s 11 Panzer Regiment fights a desperate armoured action against the exhausted remnants of Red Army General Badanov’s Soviet 24th and 25th Tank Corps and the 1st Guards Mechanized Corps as they make one last try to cut the vital rail link to Stalingrad.
Axis attack during zitadelle somewhere on the southern side of the salient.
Setting is the Crimea, neck of the Kerch peninsula during the Soviet's spring offensive. A hill overlooks both side's trench line. After an extensive bombardment, another assault has been ordered. Organize your men and move out.

This scenario depends on a "Soldier's Luck" and skill in handling an infantry company. Will the enemy's last shells land in your trenches and wipe out half your force? Or will that exceptional platoon lieutenant be the only casualty? Will your heavy weapons squad arrive in time to turn the battle? Should you send all your men forward or hold some back? Rest and regroup your platoons or send them in at once? Will you reach the hill faster than your opponent?

This scenario was in round one of the Masters Tournament, Fall 2008. Mirror forces but with random reinforcements.

Mad Russian,

I'm lazy. And no internet at home. I should check Amazon. We do have a Amazon Facility here in Grand Forks. Again back to my first line.

Also, I don't know if anyone has checked out the video on Youtube? It is fantastic. The Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands 1/3, 2/3 & 3/3.

Some Japanese gentleman created this at home. It is a three part video. About a half hour total. Not a lot of sound. All text is in Japanese. Still very good. Start with 1/3 and so on.

They don't have a large Second World War section. But what they do have ain't to shabby.

I get the catalog in the mail. Probably on a list from my other subscritions. But here is thier website: HamiltonBooks.com

Enjoy!

Amazon.com had most of the books that Hamilton was offering and at lower prices.

For instance:

PANZERTRUPPEN, VOLUME 1: The Complete Guide to the Creation & Combat Employment of Germany's Tank Force, 1933-1942. and PANZERTRUPPEN, VOLUME 2: The Complete Guide to the Creation & Combat Employment of Germany's Tank Force, 1943-1945. are both listed on Hamilton for $44.95 and on Amazon they sell for $34.99 and $39.97. A savings on those two volumes alone of just under $25.

With the way Amazon has connected with book dealers around the country I always check with them before I buy in other places.

I still do buy in other places but I check to make sure they can beat Amazons prices first.

Good Hunting.

A different choice for US side in Battle #1 of your new operation might be better.

My latest project is ready for testing.

It's called Valley Lake, not playtested at yet but had much consultation with PzAuf about force mix.

Play as H2H:)

All suggestions welcome, not least a proper name!

The SDT????

Don't abbreviate for titles you are trying to direct more recent members. They will have no idea what the abbreviations mean.

In this case Scenario Design Tips is the SDT abbreviation that PzAufklarung is talking about, maybe that's obvious and maybe it's not, and I agree there are some great articles in that section. They have been done by some of the best scenario designers in our community.

Good Hunting.

During setup, find your senior commander or first platoon HQ VEH. In the orders selection there should be an option to activate dynamic flag (bottom order). Click on the order then click the 3-D map anywhere near the flag you choose for your objective.
